Gray Gable’s claim to fame

is as the location of the summer home for our 22nd and 24th President of the United States, Grover Cleveland. Cleveland became enamoured with Bourne following a visit to “Crows Nest on Buttermilk Bay” the home of his best friend, the Shakespearean and silent movie actor Joseph Jefferson, famous for portraying Rip Van Winkle in the late 1800s. The rest is history!

The former summer White House of President Cleveland, Gray Gables has slowly transformed from an estate into a beautiful residential neighborhood. Mainly a quiet area, located in sight of the Cape Cod Canal, homes here are very sought after. Upper Cape Agent James Abdu recently sold a charming 4 bedroom home there on Onley Road. The easy access to the Bourne Bridge, neighborhood beach and ease of access to essentials and entertainment made Gray Gable an ideal choice for the new owners who James introduced to the area. The presidential legacy lives on with Cleveland Ledge Lighthouse. Located in the middle of Buzzards Bay, this one of a kind New England lighthouse was named for President Cleveland, an avid fisherman. Cleveland’s Cove, a tidal pond leading to the entrance of the Cape Cod Canal, also serves as a memorial for the long deceased President.

Nearby in Bourne Village, additional historical hotspots include the Briggs-McDermott House, the Alonzo Booth Blacksmith Shop, and the Allen Greene Carriage House, all restored and located at 22 Sandwich Road in Bourne and the Aptucxet Trading Post..
